Health Department

The health and sanitation department of the city and municipality oversees the management of health and cleanliness for all citizens. Under this department, tasks such as road cleaning, construction of public toilets for sanitation, and maintenance of their cleanliness, as well as waste management including sewage and solid waste disposal, are carried out to ensure overall health and cleanliness.

  • On May 29, 2017, the municipality declared the city as a "Swachh City." Following a thorough inspection on January 4, 2018, the municipality confirmed its status as a "Swachh City." The city has been designated as a "Swachh City Plus" (ODF Plus), indicating the availability of necessary facilities such as public toilets in various locations. Additionally, on February 4, 2019, after an assessment by the Quality Council of India (QCI), the city was declared as "ODF++."
  • The sewage from public toilets and septic tanks has been processed through the municipality's Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Rameshwadi. Based on these facilities, the city was accredited with an ODF++ rating on September 25, 2019.
  • An application for water+ accreditation was submitted on February 10, 2021.
  • Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the city was ranked 14th nationally and received a star rating for the year 2021-22 under the Garbage Free City (GFC) initiative. It is the tenth city in Maharashtra to receive such recognition.
